James Townsend & Sons Ltd in new reprographic venture with Roland DG

As part of their expansion plans labels and packaging specialist James Townsend has recently launched a separate reprographics company called Think Repro. The Exeter-based labels and packaging specialist has identified new sales channels within the packaging pre-press sectors with the launch of the five-staff company.

According to Kristian Wells, prepress manager at James Townsend, the new business will enable Think Repro to sell its repro and print services to companies in the packaging space. "We've been offering repro to some smaller local commercial printers but with the launch of Think Repro, we can target larger packaging businesses that need repro and also print services," he said.

As part of this new venture Kristian Wells their Pre-press Manager chose to install a Roland DG VersaUV LEC-330 which, linked to its GMG ColorProof color management workflow, enables them to offer color accurate proofs on any substrate.

James Townsend already had a Digital Cromalin system, which is capable of producing a white ink using toner, but Wells felt that this did not give enough control and that each proof worked out to be time consuming and expensive. He said: "We needed a cost effective solution that was simple to use, an inkjet proofer that was able to print white ink and to cope with all our material, including clear film and metallic substrates and the LEC330 gave us all of this."
