“I have been involved in graphic design for garments for more than 20 years, and this is one of the most exciting tools I’ve seen to jump-start your business,” said Shawn Lyons, owner of the The T-Shirt Makers in Inglewood, California, about Roland DG’s VersaStudio BN-20 20-inch digital printer/cutter with CYMK and metallic silver ink.

“I’ve wanted this machine forever - it’s just perfect for my business,” said Lyons. “With full color plus metallic, I knew there were a lot of things I could do with the BN-20.  Since I bought it, I’ve found even more!”

“With the BN-20 I can quickly print customized garments that are on trend.”

Lyons purchased his BN-20 right before Christmas and quickly capitalized on his new production capability, creating a series of multi-colored and metallic-ink enhanced seasonal designs for hooded sweatshirts. He marketed the shirts as limited editions and quickly sold out.  “My customers love the way the colors shine on light or dark materials,” said Lyons. “I was able to make my money back in three weeks.”

In addition to t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, hats and shoes, Lyons also produces life-size prints of celebrities and sports stars as well as graphics for walls and mirrors.  “When people see full color photographic designs, they are immediately intrigued,” said Lyons.

With the BN-20 in place, Lyons can respond to trends and seasonal fashions. “People just love affordably priced designs that they won’t see on everyone else,” said Lyons.  “With the BN-20 I can quickly print customized garments that are on trend.”

Lyons also uses the BN-20 to help nearby businesses with their marketing, printing window graphics, door graphics, banners and t-shirts with clients’ logos. Lyons even uses the BN-20 to handle work outsourced to him by other service providers.

“With new technology comes new opportunities,” said Lyons.  “The BN-20 provides me with a multitude of possibilities for my business.”
